And Then Came Obama

From the dusty village of Nyangoma Kogelo in Kenya, across the Jura mountains in France, to the thriving City of Philadelphia, the name Barack Obama is part of History.

I am writing this at 21:00 GMT on the 4th November 2008 and in approximately 7 hours, the American people, by the looks of it, will choose Senator Barack Obama as the first Black president of the United States of America.

And the world will be proud. The white truck driver from Iowa who discarded racial stereotypes to vote Obama will be proud. The British teacher in Coventry will proudly tell her students that they indeed, can live to achieve their dreams and live in a unified world. Africans all over the world will be surging with pride, because ours is a continent desperate for heroes. For African-Americans, particularly those who lived through the Civil Rights Movement, no words can describe what an Obama presidency will mean. They will be proud. Will you?

The victory for Obama also signifies hope. Regardless of who we or where we come from if we believe in ourselves and work hard enough there is hope that we can actually change Africa and the way the world sees it.

Obama victory is quiet significant as he is the first US black president.

This is quiet fair if you consider that black people probably built america as slaves first and then as a magority as oppose to a minority who did not had a good access to education (for a long time) and therefore had to do with minimum wages most of the times.

What will this change in the US politics? Probably nothing in my opinion...

People worldwide call this a victory for democraty! Well this was the case as well for Bush Jr, Clinton and Bush Sr and many other US presidents before that as they have all been elected fairly.

I am very proud of my country. Radical Evangelical Americans unfortunately mobilized too strongly by spreading their gospel of fear and hate the lat two years, which was greatly responsible for Bush being elected for two damaging terms. But the good thing about Americans is that we do look back and learn from out mistakes and make sharp turns to correct them. Finally, the educated, level headed, progressive Americans mobilized by the millions to correct the wrong doings of out radical ignorant christian base. Can you guess what side i support? hahaha. Anyway, we are all very happy and feel like a new people over night! Now in California we are also fighting the religious right wing for total equal rights for straight and gay couples. They are supposed to have the poll results by totaled by this afternoon. Despite how one thinks about gay people, it's about equal/human rights. And no one should have the right to discriminate against another group of
people. Ugh, the bible is great when interpreted correctly, through love and acceptance, but then people use it to fulfill their own agendas, it is socially destructive. Anyway, what is the vibe overseas?
